Robert Rouse
Robert J. Rouse, 84, passed from this life to his eternal home on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Born in Dennis, Mississippi, one of 13 children to John and Nona Rouse. He is survived by his sisters, Vera Pharr and Nell Messer; brother, William (Peggy) Rouse; daughters, Kim (Mark) Schroeder of Streamwood, Illinois and Linda (Douglas) Deaton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandsons, Jason (Monique) Schroeder, John (Katie) Deaton, and Aaron (Billie Ryan) Deaton; great-grandchildren, Kristen, Allison, William, Aiden, Hailey and, Colton.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Lora Marie.
Robert served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 298 of Marion, Iowa
A Product Design Engineer by trade, he was employed for 36 years with Borg Warner Automotive in Bellwood, Illinois.
Always very active and community involved, Robert was the Senior Nutrition Site Manager for the Hanover Township Community Nutrition Network of Bartlett, Illinois, for several years before relocating to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Robert devoted much of his time in service to others. He was a member of the B.P.O.E., the Loyal Order of Moose, and a Master Mason.
He was Past Master of Elgin Masonic Lodge 117, A.F. & A.M.; Past President of the Elgin Shrine Club. He served on the Medinah Temple of Chicago, membership committee, and performed as a clown and balloon animal master in the Medinah Shrine Club Clown Unit. He belonged to the Eastern Star, the York Rite and the Scottish Rite M.S.A., and was a member of the El Kahir Shriners of Cedar Rapids.
An avid gardener, Robert was famously known for his gigantic tomatoes and running okra. For many years he joyfully entertained everyone’s children as Santa Claus, and was instrumental in assisting many families in need of the services of the Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital. A mischievous fun loving spirited soul, Robert was one of the great ones.
Special graveside services to be held at Lakewood Memorial in Elgin, Illinois, will be announced at a future date.
