Robert Rolfes

Robert “Hap” Rolfes was born to Frank and Ida Rolfes on September 18, 1931.  He graduated from Liberty Consolidated School in 1950.  He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956, with tours in Japan and Korea.  He was released from Active Duty in 1956 with an honorable discharge.  He was a lifetime member of VFW and enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, playing cards and spending time with his family.  He married Sylvia Harms in 1958 and 3 children were born to this union.  He later married Edith Booth in 1971 and one child was born to this union. He was in sales most of his life selling insurance, manager for Northup King and Company, manager for American Cyanamid, Agrico and Cargill, Inc. before going into business for himself selling seed corn until he fully retired in 1996.  Once he was retired he worked part-time with the Iowa High School Athletic Association where they made him feel like part of their family. 

He is survived by his son Steve Rolfes (Janelle) of Omaha, NE, daughter Cindy Eggers (Rusty) of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, son Robert Rolfes Jr. (Sharon) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Step-son Denny Booth (Peggy) of Carroll, IA, Step-daughter Deb Belmonte (Robert) of Cumming, IA. Three brothers, CJ Rolfes of Alchester SD, Gene Rolfes (Bernie) of Phoenix, AZ, and Stanley Rolfes (Linda) of Akron, IA, Four sisters Ruth Phelps of Cincinnati, OH, Paula Winker of Boca Raton, Fl, Clarice Wilken (Dallas) of Akron, IA, and Pat Christensen of Marshalltown, IA.  He has 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, his parents, son Daniel, and four brothers, Isiadore, Daniel, Virgil and LeRoy.  

Services will be held on March 11th, 2017 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, IA.  In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the Iowa River Hospice House. IowaRiverHospice.org/gifts.  In honor of his love for the Iowa Hawkeyes the family the family is encouraging wearing black and gold for the service.

The family would like to give special thanks to Bobby Hansen and Gary Dolphin from Learfield Sports and the Iowa Hawkeye Sports Network for making Hap’s last Iowa game one we will never forget.
