Barbara Caldwell

Barbara Lynne Caldwell, 74, of Cedar Rapids died April 10, 2017 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. She chose to be cremated, and requested that no services be held. Her family will celebrate her life privately.

Barbara was born April 4, 1943 in Glen Dale, West Virginia, the daughter of Robert Lloyd and Anna Marie (Young) Caldwell. She grew up and was educated in Whittier, California.

Upon completion of her dietetic internship Barbara became a registered member of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and worked as a hospital dietitian for 34 years in Illinois, Iowa and California. She obtained her master’s degree in nutrition from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

While still in high school Barbara had the opportunity to start traveling the world. She became an avid traveler, and visited all continents but Antarctica. She had a particular love of New Zealand, and made ten trips there. In her retirement, Barbara enjoyed family history research and quilting.

Barbara is survived by a brother, Robert (Helen Kudos) Caldwell, a sister, Susan (Larry) Reeve, a niece, Iris Caldwell, and nephews Kevin and Eric Madden and Joseph Caldwell. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Judith Madden.

The family thanks the staff at Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, Mercy Hospital, Hiawatha Care Center and the Hospice House of Mercy for the loving care that they gave to our sister.

Any memorials may be directed to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA, or the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics Foundation in Chicago, IL 60606-6995.
